Sadhana is defined simply as daily spiritual practice, or a means to the realization of a spiritual goal. While the definition is simplistic, the meaning and practice is profound, and very personal. Sadhana practice is, in my opinion,  as unique as each of us are as individuals. Traditional Yoga practice is based completely around Sadhana, because all Yoga is Sadhana. When studying Yoga, Sadhana practices are built and certain suggested “best” ways of practice are offered. This is very helpful in the beginning, when a structure is necessary for re-wiring habitual thinking and living, but I have found that adhering to rigidity in any form can become problematic. Journeying along as a human is a changeable condition. Movement and fluidity is Life, and flexibility is strength. I believe that this applies to Sadhana as well. Begin with a structure, and then allow what you Love about the structure to change and shift as you are changing and shifting. Yoga practice will deepen, you will meet yourself in a new way, so your Sadhana will be altered as growth alters the perspective, the body, the mind and the Spirit. After all, unfolding, blooming, releasing and changing is the goal of all spiritual practice.

“There is a hope of finding something. One doesn’t proceed in darkness, but takes a lighted candle, which is Sadhana. The more you step forward, the more the path appears in the light of that candle.” ~ Baba Hari Das
